Headlights can be the cause of an accident

MIAMI - DECEMBER 1: A Saab and Volvo vehicle ...

Driving around the country side, visiting family members, friends, etc. could easily turn into a time of sorrow by a needless car accident.

The quality of light on your vehicle could be the cause of that accident.

The light on our cars are meant to give you more visibility and see other road users at least 200 feet in front of you as well does it help other road users to see you.

Up to now a lot of people do not know when to use full lights or when to dim them. Not dimming your headlights with motorist is a major cause of deaths on single carriage ways. People have different reactions to on-coming lights and if they are not dimmed some of us are blinded by the light.

But headlights, if used wrong, can be the cause of other accidents also. In cool places, such as forested places the wind is moving slowly because its speed is broken down by trees. One of these places is Mabira forest where a road goes through the forest and is used by a lot by trucks transporting sugar cane to the sugar factory not very far from Mabira. The trucks normally have high exhaust fumes which in places like this take long to clear. This smoke, with undimmed headlights, will start playing tricks on the driver as they reflect the light, thus blinding him/her.

A piece of advice: before you drive upcountry it is advisable that you do a headlight alignment. For this you can go to your local garage or car dealer.

Another caution is needed when we carry heavy loads in out trunk. Because of this the weight lowers the rear of the car and sometimes it changes the focus of the headlights. The light beams instead shine up thus making it difficult to see ahead clearly and this poor visibility can cause accidents.

So from now on let us exercise good driving habits by dimming the lights for oncoming vehicles, and whenever the situation demands it.
