The compact Suzuki Aerio was first released as a sedan and a four-door hatchback wagon in 2002. The sedan had trim levels such as S and GS. The hatchback had only one trim level – the SX. Later, Aerios came in two trims – the base or premium trims. The engine in Aerios was a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. On entry-level cars, a five-speed manual transmission was usual, while a four-speed automatic was normal on higher trim levels. With the Aerio you could have a smooth, comfortable ride on the highway. However, excessive body roll around corners was a disadvantage. The tall and tippy stance worsened the scenario. The solution for this problem was opting for an AWD. The Suzuki Aerio has a high roof line. This allowed the car to have a good amount of interior space. The trunk space was 14.6 cubic feet. However, interior plastics quality, execution, and overall refinement did not match the leaders in the market. Few changes were introduced in the Aeiro after its debut. In 2003, the power was increased to 145 hp from the initial 141 hp. The GS and SX models obtained a 6-disc CD player.
